Rasoul Moarek Nejad is an Iranian visual artist whose practice spans painting, video art, writing, and research. Since the late 1980s, he has developed an interdisciplinary body of work that explores the relationship between image, time, memory, and human experience.
His paintings and video works often emerge from close observation rather than direct narration. Rather than illustrating philosophical ideas, they investigate how images can shape perception, evoke memory, and reveal the fragile relationship between personal experience and collective history.
A recurring concern in his work is time—not as chronology, but as duration, repetition, and interruption. Through extended sequences, stillness, repetition, and the accumulation of everyday images, his video works encourage sustained attention and invite viewers to reconsider familiar experiences.
Many of his projects also engage with broader social realities, including war, migration, urban memory, and the ways historical events continue to inhabit contemporary life. These themes are approached indirectly, allowing visual structure and rhythm to carry meaning rather than explicit narrative.
Moarek Nejad began his professional career as a painter in 1989. His interest in moving images developed in the early 1990s, leading to his first video artwork, Creation (1994). Since 2007, video art has become the primary focus of his artistic practice while painting continues to inform his visual language.
Alongside his artistic practice, he has published books on art and aesthetics and has lectured and written on contemporary visual culture. His work has been exhibited in museums, galleries, and video art festivals, reflecting an ongoing investigation into the possibilities of the moving image as a medium for critical and poetic reflection.
